I agree with Yogi i have already told people that if my children or wife are hungry and i smell food cooking in the home there as good as dead. I have trained my 6 year old child to clean/load/shoot. I can with my family easily flank. Im not talking just a power outage im talking a lack of Government or civil unrest.
Good work, I would …
Good work, I would suggest that you invest in crank or solar power lights, radio and something to charge your cellphone with. You need communications.
Also, I suggest you invest in a defense weapon. Maybe a pump shotgun or a .22 rifle. Don’t plan on loving neighbors.
Also, firstaid a cut finger or broken bone can be deadly during this time.
Just friendly suggestions, good work and planning, your better off than most out there. Hoooah!
yeah, i agree with …
yeah, i agree with the other guy, a weapon is pretty well a must, plus a decent supply of ammo…..otherwise people will walk all over you
It’s your right ( …
It’s your right (presumably as an American, maybe Canadian?) to feel however you’d like to on whatever subject. Let’s just keep in mind the evil that is regrettably inherent in some of the lesser quality human beings around. Most of us in the military carry weapons and in my case trauma medical gear in hopes that we’ll never have to use it. Mosin Nagant rifles are really cheap and do the job well. Better to have it and not need it, right? Just food for thought.

Rain barrels rock! Good for you for having one. It’d be a prized possession in an emergency. Thanks for commenting.
That’s a good point …
That’s a good point, and I have taken that into consideration. My approach is to be proactive and strengthen my relationship with my community. That said, there would be a need for protection. I’m not keen on guns though. That’s my take on it, and I appreciate that others feel much more secure with firearms.
Maybe it’s the …
Maybe it’s the military in me, but what about defensive options? People will take what they need from others if they don’t have it ready themselves. Call me paranoid but I want just as many bullets for my guns as I have beans in the pantry.

Well I’ve got a lot to learn, and the limited amount of info that I’ve been exposed to has been to treat all water, including water. So I wouldn’t be surprised if rainwater is indeed potable, and would be delighted to learn that it is. Thanks for sharing that info. Any more that you’d like to share would be much appreciated. Chad
Your comments are …
Your comments are interesting re non-potable rain water. Here in Oz we have had rain water tanks forever and it is actually considered a better quality water than the town supply (dead bugs, bird poo and all)…… maybe it’s just what a person is used to, (mentally & stomach bug wise?)

Ha! She laughed her off when I told her that she should drink potty water. Thanks for that.

Thanks for the kind words. One of the most important aspects-water-can be inexpensive. Food-grade barrels can be purchased for very little, and retrofitting them is very easy.
