They recommend making provision for your pets. I have seen even emergency pack for the pet at PetsMart. I had a set up for my cat, including a carpet lined cage, with toys and everything. She hated it! When we were all being notified to evacuated a year ago she meowed so that I could not hear instruction being given by bullhorn.
Anyway she was taken care of...as she had three days woith of food, her carrying cage, a litter box and her pills. she even had her own cat water. (water bottled with a little fish flavor).
In fact hse had more than a lot of the other people at the red cross shelter.
p.s: my poor kitty has put up with two fires, a major quake, and two floods....one riot. Whew. No wonder she meows so!
References :
Absolutely. And plenty of fresh water... I remember water was sold at a premium in the days after the 94' quake... That was SCARY!
References :
Yes, we have cat food in our supplies. Which reminds me that I haven't rotated the stock in awhile, and since we had a shaker the other day I better go through the box and freshen it up!

I was in a pet store the other day and saw a "rescue me" sticker for the windows to alert firefighters and emergency personel that animals are in the home in case the occupant of the home isn't present when an emergency occurs or is incapacitated. I bought them and put them up and felt a bit ashamed I hadn't done this before but relieved that the stickers were now in place. You betcha in a quake I would attend to my pets ASAP after I made sure my husband and son were okay. If we had to evacuate, they would come with us. They're family, too.
References :
Guess it depends on how important your pets are to you. If you plan to feed them in an emergency situation, then you should pack some food, otherwise they'll be eating yours or starving. No?
References :
Common sense?

Should you also pack pet supplies in your earthquake preparedness kits ???
I seem to remember that a lot of people in New Orleans wouldn't leave their flooding home because they di not want to leave their pets behind.
